Gurez Valley begins at Kel in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and concludes at Taobat, which is located in the Pakistani region of AJK. It can undoubtedly be referred to as the “Jewel of Azad Kashmir.” The valley starts from Kel and stretches to Taobat, the final destination in Pakistan. The drive from Kel to Taobat takes approximately four and a half hours by jeep. This valley is among the most stunning places on Earth (trust me, I’ve visited Switzerland and Austria, but they don’t compare to the beauty of Gurez Valley or Taobat). Throughout the journey, the mountain road follows the Neelum River (Kishan Ganga). There are numerous picturesque waterfalls along the route where you can pause to take photos and relax. The mountains are covered in lush greenery, and traditional wooden houses are spread throughout the valley, enhancing its charm. On your way from Kel to Taobat, you can make stops at Sardari or Janwai for tea or light snacks at local eateries (nothing elaborate). Local walnuts are worth tasting. When you pass Janwai, you’ll need to present your original CNIC, and just before reaching Taobat, Army personnel will collect your CNIC and return it to you upon your return (as this is the last point before the Line of Control, and then India begins). You can enjoy a nice lunch (including freshly caught trout) and find local hotels at Taobat, where you may choose to stay overnight. If you depart from Kel early, you can return after appreciating Gurez Valley, its waterfalls, and local wooden houses, as well as spending time at Taobat. Here are some photos showcasing the breathtaking Gurez Valley and Taobat.
