The roads are in excellent condition. You need to drive on the Swat Expressway towards Chakdara from the M1. At the Shamozai Bridge, I took the Matta Road and reached Kalam via Madyan and Bahrain. From Peshawar, it’s a 270 km journey that takes about 4.5 to 5 hours. The road condition is generally good, except for heavy traffic near the Matta region. Kalam and the surrounding areas offer natural beauty, featuring a river with pristine water and lush green mountains filled with pine trees.
Kalam is a valley located 99 kilometers from Mingora, in the northern upper reaches of the Swat Valley, at an altitude of 6,500 feet, along the bank of the Swat River in KPK, Pakistan. The main attractions include the Usho Forest, Utror Valley, and Mahodand Lake. Mount Falaksar, standing at 5,918 meters (19,416 feet), is the highest peak in the area.
In Pakistan, there are very few places where a short journey leads to a ski area; accessing those areas isn’t easy. However, the road to Malam Jabba is reasonable enough to be navigated by a regular two-wheel-drive car. You need to hire a 4WD for visitors for easier access because the road may be worn out, and it is broad and safe. Due to its condition, please allow extra time to reach your destination.
The distance from Mingora is manageable, making a day trip from the Swat. There are many hotels at the Malam Jabba top, but the best one—the resort itself—is still under construction. A chairlift takes visitors up to the highest point, and a short walking track is a main attraction. Simple refreshments are available, but do not expect gourmet food; it is better to bring good food from Mingora or resort to nearby hotels for freshly cooked meals. The zip line is more about noise than speed, but it is very popular among young children.
