In this valley that resembles a plateau, farmers practice agriculture and see breathtaking views of the mountains, including the 5,918-meter-high Mount Falaksar and another peak that reaches 6,096 meters (20,000 feet). Mingora is 99 kilometers away, but Kalam has become a popular tourist spot because of its mountains, forests, and lakes.
The sub-valley of Swat contains a treasure trove of natural beauty, including lakes, mountains, valleys, and lush green forests. Winter in Kalam transforms it into a snow-covered wonderland, filled with glaciers and frozen lakes providing breathtaking views. It is one of the must-visit destinations for nature enthusiasts and travelers interested in learning more about the Swat region’s beauty.
A bus was booked for the whole family, and we left for our journey. In order to drive 13 hours, the plan was to leave at 3 a.m.
A cold breeze welcomed us when we reached Kalam after a long journey from the hot Punjab region. A heavy rain was falling there, and it was extremely cold.
Our summer clothing suddenly felt insufficient as we needed jackets and warmth. Our clothing was not warm enough, and we were unprepared for this cold. We needed to get some items from the market as soon as possible.
Several shops and local crafts are available at Kalam market. We returned to the hotel after buying jackets. Our hunger prompted us to order food, which we enjoyed, and then went to sleep as we were exhausted.
While the region has many tourist attractions, our short trip only allowed us to see the beautiful Mataltan Valley. The lake is in the Hindu-Kush mountain range, 40 kilometers from Kalam. A mile long and 9,400 feet above sea level, it is about two kilometers high. Begin your journey early in the morning to reach the lake, as it takes three to four hours. Our trip there took about seven to eight hours because it was so crowded.
Some metal patches were present, but mostly the road was rocky and gravelly. Use a rental car rather than your car, as yours might get damaged underneath. Like we did, you can rent a Jeep at a local market.
The trail was dangerous and tricky, but you could not believe the wonderful amazing views. Driving along a river, then through a forest, and then alongside tall mountains was an exciting experience.
We spent a few minutes enchanted by the view and the horses running nearby. You could stay at the campsite or hire a boat; otherwise, you could relax by the lake.
In the chilly air, it was a peaceful view. The cold weather made for a cozy environment for ordering food and drinking tea. I marveled at the natural beauty there for hours.
An attractive lake, tall mountains, and lush greenery filled the valley. It was a beautiful day outside. You will be filled with peace and happiness as we admire the fabulous sights. The trip was truly a memorable one that we enjoyed a great deal.
After spending two hours there, we returned since it was getting late. The journey took us hours to reach our hotel at midnight. The drive on high mountains in the dark was dangerous, and we were glad we reached our destination safely.
The two days we spent enjoying this astonishing place were coming to an end, and it was time to go home. While eating breakfast and packing our bags, we decided to come back for a long vacation to get a better understanding of this area.
