6. Katpana Cold Desert

Katpana Desert and Biama Nakpo are high-altitude deserts in northern Gilgit-Baltistan, near Skardu, Pakistan. As a result of the large expanses of dunes, the desert is frequently covered in snow during winter, and the Katpana Desert has a height of 4,153 meters. Skardu and Shigar Valley make up the largest desert area of Ladakh, spanning the Khaplu Valley to Zanskar.

Skardu and Shigar valleys, located along the banks of the Indus and Shigar rivers, feature sand deserts. As one of the largest deserts in Indian-Occupied Kashmir, the Katpana Desert extends from Khaplu Valley to Nubra, Ladakh, and Shigar, Skardu Valley to Zanskar. The Katpana Desert is mostly found in the Skardu and Shigar Valleys. According to local lore, it is called Biana Naqpo and Katpana Biana.

A height of 7,303 feet distinguishes it from the rest of the city. The desert is one of the highest in the world.
