Skardu’s Marsur Rock hike is considered to be one of the most popular activities. It is often called the Trolltunga Rock of Pakistan because of its resemblance to the Nordic icon. A small village near Skardu, Hussainabad, contains Marsur Rock, which is more than 30 minutes’ drive from the city.
Getting there is the first step in starting your journey. Taking a round trip of around six hours, including three hours of uphill trekking, it is the best day hike in Skardu. There is an elevation gain of about 600 meters on the rock, which measures 38 feet long. The majestic view of Skardu from above will capture your heart as soon as you arrive.
In addition, its top offers a stunning view of the Katpana Desert. A snow-free day during the year is the best time to hike to Marsur Rock. There is no shade along the trail, and the temperature reaches 35 degrees during the day. It is therefore important to start early in the morning. As the trail is relatively new, you won’t have access to amenities once you begin your journey, so bring water and snacks with you.
